Energy Demand

The total consumption has declined slightly since 2017 (-1.1%/year) to 6.8 Mtoe in 2019. It contracted by 2.4%/year between 2008 and 2015, but recovered until 2017 (+3.3%/year). Oil consumption has been falling since 2008 and accounted for 34% of total energy consumption, nuclear and hydropower for 29%, coal and lignite for 16%, gas and biomass for 11% each.


The transport sector accounted for the highest share of final consumption with 38%, followed by the residential sector with 30%, industry with 29% and non-energy uses with 3%.
