Slovenia's total final energy consumption has been declining since 2011 by an average of 2.5 % per year. However in 2016, consumption increased by 3.6 %. Oil consumption has been falling since 2008 and accounted for 35% of total energy consumption, nuclear for 22%, coal and lignite for 17%, gas and biomass for 10% each, and hydropower for 6%.
The transport sector accounted for the highest share of final consumption with 38 %, followed by the residential sector with 35%, industry with 25 % and non-energy uses with 2 %.
