The consumption of oil shale grew at a rate of 3,3% over the period 2000-2013. In 2013, over 70% of oil shale was consumed by power plants, while 28% was converted into fuel oil. Total final consumption of energy increased by a yearly average of 3,3% over the period 2000-2007.
The share of industry in final consumption has decreased from 47% in 1992 to 15.1% in 2017. Almost half of the final energy is consumed by residential-services sector. Transport accounts for 26.5% of final consumption.
