Romanian Electricity Market fully liberalized

As of 1st January 2018, the electricity market in Romania is fully liberalized.

As of 1st January 2018, the electricity market in Romania is fully liberalized, meaning that the price for electricity can now be freely negotiated between consumers and suppliers. Consumers however have the option to return to the universal service market at any time, even if they have previously agreed to obtain electricity via a competitive regime. The price of electricity in the liberalised market is expected to be lower than in the regulated segment since the universal service market is seen as a kind of safety market.

The electricity price is only one component of the final bill paid by consumers, the Romanian Energy Regulator (ANRE) will continue to regulate the other components— tariffs for transportation, distribution and system services, which are set annually.
