Poland's government signed a deal to acquire a building permit for a dam and 80 MW hydropower plant on the Vistula river near the northern town of Ciechocinek. Between 2017 and 2019, the government plans to obtain the necessary administrative decisions and begin project construction in 2020, with completion expected by the end of 2025. This would be the second plant located on the Vistula river following the 160 MW Wloclawek plant.

Poland currently has around 2.35 GW of installed hydropower capacity.
