Bulgaria has cheapest household electricity prices in the EU
Bulgarian households with annual electricity consumption between 2.500 – 5.000 kWh paid 9.6 Euro per 100 kWh of electricity in the first half of 2017. Compared to the first half of 2016, this represented a 0.2 % decrease and equally the lowest price in the EU, according to Eurostat. In Germany and Denmark for example, the same household paid 30 Euro per 100 kWh. One reason for the low electricity prices in Bulgaria is the low share of taxes and levies of 17 %, whereas in Denmark, this share stands at 67 %, respectively.
The average household electricity price in the EU over the first six months 2017 stood at 20.4 Euro per 100 kWh, representing a decrease of 0.5 % compared to the same period in 2016.
