Turkey to build first joint solar panel factory

Turkey’s Kalyon Holding and South Korea’s Hanwha Q-Cells won a tender in March 2017 to build a solar PV plant of 1 GW capacity in Konya province, Turkey. The tender also stated that both companies build a solar panel factory.

According to Kalyon reports, the factory will be built in Ankara, with a opening ceremony planned in November 2017 as it would be Turkey’s first integrated solar panel production facility.

Capacity of the plant is seen at around 500MW with plans to increase to 1GW in the coming years. First solar panels are expected to be produced by the end of 2018 and investment of the project is seen at around USD 450 million to USD 1 billion, when capacity should reach 1 GW, according to the same source.
