New law on renewables in Albania to settle dispute between government and producers

Energy Community supported negotiations

On February 2 the Albanian Parliament passed the Law on the Promotion of the Use of Energy from Renewable Sources. The new law was established as a consequence of a lasting dispute between the Government and the operators of small hydropower plants. The Secretariat of  the Energy Community was involved  in the negotiation and  resolution phase of the dispute. In the center of the dispute was the methodology of calculating the support schemes for existing producers. In a next step the Secretariat will verify the adopted law’s compliance with the Energy Community acquis.
