Poland’s renewable Act favors biomass and biogas with least support for wind and solar

The new Renewable Energy Sources Act (RES Act) will replace the current quota system by an auctions-based scheme

According to the new Act highest financial support will be provided for „stable“ and „predictable“ technologies, thus biomass and biogas. The new legislation that came into force by 1 July 2016 complies with the European Commission’s Energy and Environmental State Aid Guidelines for the period 2014-2020 (EEAG).
The obligation to purchase electricity produced by RES facilities will be guaranteed by an auction-based system defined for 7 groups of installations.
A secondary law will regulate the reference (maximum) price for electricity from RES for each technology.
In addition, the Wind Turbine Act was signed concerning the location, development and operation of wind turbines.
Both acts were scheduled to become effective with 1 July 2016.
