Ukraine to follow IMF requirements by harmonising energy tariffs

In an attempt to obtain financial support by the International Monetary Fund Ukraine is introducing new energy tariffs.

A new era started in Ukraine with the election of the new Prime Minister. After a period of political disorder that had prohibited a fruitful discussion with the IMF it was now possible to obtain new loans of $ 1,7 billion in exchange for reforms aiming at a stimulation of Ukraine’s economy. The old pricing system had charged households with a yearly consumption over 1200 cubic metres with a tariff almost twice as high as those with a consumption of less than 1200 cubic metres. The intention of the new pricing system is to stop corruption and manipulation and offer fair tariffs to households.
