First Croatian LNG import terminal expected in 2018

Croatia expects to commission its first LNG import terminal in Omisalj on the northern Island of Krk by 2018.

The Floating Storage Terminal should have an initial annual capacity of around two billion cubic meters (bcm) with potential expansion into an onshore terminal later, according to the Ministry of Economy.

Initial plans were focused towards building an onshore terminal with annual capacity of up to six bcm, with exports targeted at central and Eastern Europe.

The Ministry also added that within the next six to 12 months, Croatia aims to revise the legal frameworks in order to reduce costs and speed up investment procedures following criticism of excessive red tape and high fees.
