Uncertainty over expansion of Poland's wind capacity

Poland's target for wind capacity by 2020 is 15 % of renewables in electricity consumption

Poland is considering to pass a new law prohibiting the construction of wind farms in the vicinity of houses. A distance of 3 km between wind farms and houses is still under discussion. Resistance may come from industry who fears as a consequence of such a regulation reduced investment in renewable energy sources and at the same time intensified use of coal.
One of Poland’s targets is to produce 15 % of its electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2020 as compared to a present share of 12 %. Poland made efforts to reach this target during the past decade when its wind capacity rose from 83 MW to a value 50-times as high, 4 GW.
