Two new wind farms in Poland installed by the Polish part of RWE

Two new wind farms were put into operation by RWE Polska, part of the German energy company RWE.

Begin October 2015 RWE commissioned the "Opalencia" wind farm with seven turbines and a total capacity of 17 MW. Moreover, RWE connected its eights wind farm "Nowy Star II" to the grid consisting of 14 turbines with a total capacity of 28 MW.

The combined capacity of the two new wind farms amounts to 45 MW and raises Poland's total capacity to 240 MW which corresponds to the supply of 250.000 homes with green electricity.

The wind farm Nowy Star  I is operational since 2013 with a total capacity of 45 MW.

Coal generates 90 percent of the country’s electricity, driving Poland's total installed capacity, including coal-fired power plants, to around 38 gigawatts (GW) at the end of 2014, 10% of which (3,8 GW) are coming from wind power plants. Poland has recently changed the subsidizing rules for renewable capacity and passed to a new auction system that will be launched in 2016 and that will replace the current subsidy scheme of so-called green certificates. Plant operators starting to feed electricity into the grid for the first time before the end of 2015 will be able to choose between the old subsidy scheme and the new system.
