Lithuania may overstep its 2020 renewable energy target

Lithuania and 18 other EU member states may exceed their 2020 renewable energy targets.

According to the energy progress report of the European Commission, there are good odds for the EU-wide target of 20 percent renewable energy in 2020 being reached. In 2014, the combined EU share of renewable energy reached 15,3 %.

The share of renewable energy in transport last year reached 5,7 %, which means that achieving the 10% target will be difficult but possible.

Based on data from the EU statistical office Eurostat, the share of renewable energy in Lithuania was 23 % in 2013 and the country is confident that the share of renewables will be at this level in 2020.
