EU lends €112m to 3rd Estonian-Latvian electricity interconnection

The European Commission has approved a €112m loan to Elering, Estonia's electricity transmission network operator.

The loan will finance the construction of the third electricity interconnection between Estonia and Latvia. The 330 kV overhead line worth €172m will connect Harku to Sindi (Estonia) over 170 km, then to Kilingi-Nõmme to Riga (Latvia). It is expected to increase the interconnection capacity between the two Baltic countries by 600 MW.
