Cooperation of Slovakia and Ukraine on gas transport

high prices in Ukraine for imported gas from Russia

Slovakia and Ukraine have signed a bilateral agreement to allow gas supply from Slovakia to Ukraine. Slovakia will reinstate a disused gas pipeline with a transport capacity of 3 bcm/year to Ukraine.
Gas import prices from Russia have more than doubled for Ukraine following the Ukrainian political crisis and Ukraine fears a suspension of gas supply, as Russia accounted for half of its gas consumption (55 bcm in 2013). In April 2014, Ukraine started importing gas from Germany via Poland under a gas supply agreement with RWE.
