Croatia opens tender for oil and gas offshore exploration

Croatia has opened an international tender for 29 oil and gas exploration blocks in the Adriatic sea; the tender will run for seven months and the first 25-year concessions could be awarded by early 2015.

Croatia expects to attract about US$2.5bn in hydrocarbon exploration over the next five years, in order to reduce its dependence on energy imports. The country currently covers 65% of its gas consumption with its domestic production (from offshore gas fields) and aims to reach 100% after new exploration efforts.
