Montenegro approves submarine power interconnection to Italy

The Ministry of Sustainable Development of Montenegro has granted Crnogorski Elektroprenosni Sistem (CGES), the country's power transmission system operator, a building permit for a substation in Lastva Grbaljska. This substation would be the first stage of a 400 kV power line to Pljevlja and a 500 kV submarine power cable to Italy.

Italian transmission system operator Terna plans to invest €700m in the laying of the cable, while CGES will invest €100m. Construction is expected to start soon.
