EC approves free CO2 allowance for the Polish energy sector

The European Commission has approved Poland's plan to allocate 404.6 million CO2 emission allowances for free for the modernisation of the country's electricity sector.

These allowances will be used to modernise production infrastructures, build new installations and diversify the energy mix, as part of Poland's investment projects (340 projects totalling PLN 119bn, i.e. €28bn).
The free allowances are considered in line with the EU state aid rules.
