Poland adopts nuclear power program

The Polish government has adopted its Polish Nuclear Power Program (PPEJ), which is not a binding plan, but rather a "road map". The program defines, among others, the schedule for construction of two nuclear power plants of 3,000 MW each and preparation for these investments regulatory infrastructure and organization.

The program also includes: economic justification for the implementation of the construction of nuclear power in Poland and its financing, and ways of dealing with spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. The location of the two units will be selected by the end of 2016; construction is expected to start in 2019 and to be completed in late 2024. The second unit should be commissioned by 2035.
