Tauron Polska Energia buys coal mining company PKW (Poland)

Tauron Polska Energia, Poland's second largest power utility, has agreed to acquire a 47.5% stake in Poludniowy Koncern Weglowy (PKW) for PLN 310m (€75m). Tauron already had a majority stake in the coal mining company and will buy out the holding of Kompania Weglowa.

The state-owned company Kompania Weglowa is suffering from record low coal prices and from economic slowdown (lower production). In November 2013, it signed a letter of intent with coking coal producer JSW to sell one of its mines in southern Poland.
