ACWA Power signs MoU for up to 5 GW of coal-fired plants (Turkey)

ACWA Power International (Saudi Afrabia) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish power utility EUAS to develop coal reserves in the Karapinar coal fields in the province of Konya (Turkey). The fields are estimated to hold 1.8 Gt of coal and would be the second largest deposit in the country after Afsin-Elbistan in south-eastern Anatolia.

The development would require up to US$8bn. The site could hold up to 5,000 MW of coal-fired power plants http://www.enerdata.net/enerdatauk/knowledge/subscriptions/research/power-plant.php. ACWA Power is already involved in an 800 MW gas-fired power project in Kirkikale (central Anatolia).
