Slovakia approves gas pipeline project to Poland

The Slovak cabinet has approved an intergovernmental agreement on the development of a new gas interconnection between Slovakia and Poland. The project is part of the planned north-south corridor and diversifies gas pipeline routes.

Project developers, national gas transmission companies Eustream and Gaz-System will attempt to obtain the status of "project of common interest" to benefit from European support. The contract for the feasibility study on the conditions for implementing the gas pipeline interconnection was awarded to Gazoprojekt in early 2012. Commercial operation is scheduled for late 2016 and the pipeline should have a capacity of about 5.6 bcm/year to Poland (4.2 bcm/year to Slovakia).
