First uranium mine in Turkey receives operation licence

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, through the General Directorate of Mining Affairs, has granted Anatolia Energy (Australia) 10-year operation licences for its Temrezli uranium mining project in Central Anatolia. The licenses enable the company to build the in-situ leach well field and processing plant but Anatolia will also apply for an operation permit before starting works.

The Temrezli project is estimated to hold 6.8 Mt of uranium ore at an average grade of 1170 part-per-million (ppm) for 17.4 million pounds U3O8 (6697 tU). Total production of 9.125 million pounds U3O8 (350 tU) is envisaged over a ten-year mine life at a rate of 1 million pounds U3O8 (385 tU) per year. Production could start in early 2016.
