Kosep withdraws bid for 500 MW Plomin-C power project

South Korean company KOSEP has decided not to submit bid for the 500 MW Plomin-C coal fired power project in Plomin (Croatia).

The company is the second of four strategic bidders shortlisted in September 2012 to withdrawn after POL-MOT (Poland). The remaining companies, Edison and Marubeni, will have until the end of October 2013 to submit binding bids for the project. The project is fiercely contested by environmental organisations, which claim that it is incompatible with the Istria County spatial plan, which limits total capacity at the site to 335 MW and stipulates gas as the fuel for any new capacity. Moreover, the project financing, estimated at €800m, is still under question.
