Bulgaria and Serbia will build reverse gas interconnection by 2017

Bulgaria and Serbia plan to build a reverse gas interconnection by 2017. In December 2012, the two countries had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of a 1.8 bcm/year gas interconnection, that was expected to be commissioned in mid-2015.

Serbia now anticipates the commissioning of the interconnection by the end of 2016. The reverse gas pipeline would be built as part of the South Stream gas project, and would be financed by the ongoing operational program for Competitiveness, while the second part of the pipe would be funded with EU resources allocated under the program for the 2014-2020 period.
