Shell gets green light for Yuzivska gas field exploration

Shell has signed an agreement with Ukraine allowing the company to start exploration of the Yuzivska gas field in eastern Ukraine. The field is estimated to hold 3,000 - 3,500 bcm of gas reserves (total resource potential).

Gas extraction could start as early as 2015. The project will be developed by Shell and Ukraine’s Nadra Yuzivksa on a 50-50 basis.
In 2012 Shell had signed a framework agreement with Ukraine worth US$500m for geological exploration of the area, including conventional, tight and shale gas. The group could invest up to US$10bn.
