Turkey considers new 3,500 MW lignite-fired power plant

Turkey plans to invest US$5bn in the development of a 3,500 MW thermal power plant in the western province of Afyon, which holds 950 Mt of lignite.

The country aims to cover 1/3 of its power mix with coal by 2023 and to raise its coal-fired power capacity to 30 GW over the next ten years.
