EDF plans €300m investment in Rybnik plant modernisation (Poland)

EDF plans to invest €300m in the modernisation of its Rybnik coal-fired power plant in Poland.

The 1,800 MW facility was initially expected to shut down in 2018 but EDF's investment should enable to comply with the European environmental norms on SOx and NOx emissions as of 2016. The modernised power plant could also operate for a further 15 years. This modernisation programme makes very unlikely the revival of a supercritical power project in Rybnik, which was shelved in December 2012.
