Poland seeks 40% cut in renewable costs by 2014

Poland is seeking to reduce the cost of renewable energies by 40% by 2014, by cutting renewable subsidies and auctioning fixed-price contracts for renewable producers.

Renewable tariffs are estimated to cost about €960m/year to end consumers. New rules will be launched in early 2014. The energy regulator will reduce the number of green certificates and launch auction to buy electricity from new installations for 15 years. Poland is required to cover 20% of its energy needs with renewables by 2020, from 11.5% in 2012.
