Turkey's largest wind farm installs battery storage system

A new contract has been signed between Turkish energy company Polat Enerji and EGS for the integration of a battery storage system into Turkey's largest wind farm.

The 328 MW Soma onshore wind complex will incorporate a 4 MW/4 MWh battery storage project. Partner EGS agreed long-term supply contracts with Chinese technology group Huawei. As part of the agreement, the Turkish technology company will combine its own software with the hardware supplied by Huawei.

According to Polat Enerji, the project will be the first storage system of its kind in Turkey. The IEA recommends improving grid connectivity and expanding battery storage as key to the wider integration of new wind energy projects worldwide.
