Hungary had a record year for new solar in 2023

Hungary installed an additional 1.6 GW of solar systems in 2023. Last year's increase is a record for Hungary and extends the country's total solar capacity to more than 5.6 GW.

According to the transmission system operator MAVIR, Hungary's total solar capacity consists of 3.3 GW of industrial solar power plants and 2.3 GW of residential systems.  In 2024, the Hungarian government will further support the increase of solar energy, e.g. through the Napenergia Plusz program, which will be launched soon. It represents a subsidy program for the installation of modern solar modules and storage systems with a total budget of HUF 75.8 billion (USD 218 million). The programm aims to support over 15,000 households.
