Submarine link between Albania and Italy

The Albanian and Italian governments have agreed to progress the major submarine line connecting Vlore und Bari.

The costs of the project are estimated to reach over 1 billion euros and the aim is to build a connection to export electricity between these two countries.

The idea has been mentioned several times in the past, but implementation has not yet started. Two national broadcasting operators OST and TERNA, have signed an agreement on the feasibility study. Based on the study, the concept and sources of funding will be determined.

Albania currently has connection lines with Greece, Montenegro and Macedonia in progress, but the line with Italy would provide Albanian producers access to one of the largest European energy markets. The project is still in the stage of preliminary discussions.
