Estonia and Latvia are preparing for decoupling from the Russian grid in 2025

The Baltic states - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - are getting ready to disconnect from the Russian grid and synchronize with the European grid by 2025.

The countries therefore need to be able to regulate their grids independently, with BESS projects playing a crucial role by providing a large part of the required services. The BESS will provide high-speed backup and automatically activate frequency regulation reserves at a much lower cost than conventional power plants currently do. Projects are co-financed by EU funds - Tume project is supported by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the Rezneke system by RePowerEu.
