Statkraft is exploring the possibility of developing a pumped storage power plant in Albania.

Deal signed to expand concession agreement

The Norwegian company Statkraft plans to build a pumped storage plant called Moglica in Albania. The plant is to be connected to the existing Moglica hydropower plant and have an estimated capacity of 800 MW to 1.6 GW. It would be the first plant of its kind in Albania. The country's government has already signed an agreement with Statkraft to extend the concession for the project. Albania currently produces electricity almost exclusively from hydroelectric plants, but is seeking to diversify its energy sources by expanding solar power and building wind and gas-fired power plants. The feasibility study for the Moglica project is expected to be completed next year, and if the outcome is positive, the plant should be ready by 2030.
