The EBRD is providing 300 million euros for the Serbian power sector

The project aims to support the government's strategy to decarbonize the electricity sector.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing €300 million in financing to support Serbia's electricity sector. The funds will be channelled to the national power utility Elektropriveda Srbije (EPS) to improve its liquidity position. The project aims to support the government's strategy to decarbonize the electricity sector, advance the coal phase-out by 2050, develop the regulatory framework for the introduction of renewable energy tenders and promote their deployment, and ensure both energy security and sustainability of supply. The EBRD will also provide project-based technical cooperation to EPS, including support for the development of a decarbonisation strategy and action plan; reforms to strengthen the company's corporate governance and managerial capacity; implementation of climate risk reporting in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD); and human resource development programs, including retraining of coal industry workers, promotion of female talent, and recruitment of highly skilled employees.
