Diversification of natural gas resources will help improve energy security for both Romania and Central and Eastern Europe

Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă met with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly in Cairo to discuss economic relations between the two countries. Romania wants to import fertilizer and gas from Egypt, while Egypt wants to import more grain. Romania also plans to meet its natural gas needs through Egyptian LNG terminals until it can extract deep-sea gas from the Black Sea. The PM stressed that the diversification of natural gas resources will improve the energy security of both Romania and Central and Eastern Europe. The bilateral trade relationship between Romania and Egypt has already exceeded $1 billion. Ciucă also stressed that Romania can be a partner of Egypt in areas such as digitizing public services, improving digital skills and their application in the private sector, and ensuring connectivity through high-speed networks.
