Romania: 4 new PV parks planed

OMV Petrom and Complex Energetic Oltenia will construct four photovoltaic (PV) parks with a combined generating capacity of about 450 MW. The investments reach more than 400 million euros. When the four parks go into service, they will increase Romania's installed solar power capacity by about 30%.

Over 400 million euros will be needed in investments to develop the four PV parks. In December 2021, OMV Petrom was designated as a selected investor for these projects, following a selection procedure organized by CE Oltenia. About 70% of the cost is being covered by the Modernization Fund.

On the locations of the former mining activities run by CE Oltenia in Işalniţa, Tismana, Roşia, and Rovinari, the PV parks will be constructed.

According to current projections, the PV parks should begin supplying electricity to the national energy system in 2024.

Four legal organizations will work on the project under a 50/50 share interest arrangement. The two partners will each receive an equal portion of the electricity produced by these organizations.
