Polish auctions award contracts for 2.5 GW of solar and wind power

The auction for new small (up to 1 MW) photovoltaic and onshore wind plants attracted the most interest with 1,264 bids submitted and 1,016 selected for a total volume of almost 1 GW and 11.9 TWh.

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has announced the results of the eight renewable energy auctions held in May and June 2021, where the expected volume was not awarded. Only three of the eight auctions sold less than 37 TWh (compared to an expected 68 TWh) with a total value of PLN 8.5 billion (€1.9 billion i.e. €5.3 billion).

The auction for new small (up to 1 MW) photovoltaic and onshore wind plants attracted the most interest with 1,264 bids submitted and 1,016 selected for a total volume of almost 1 GW and 11.9 TWh. The minimum price offered (207 PLN/MWh, 46 €/MWh) was almost 40 % below the reference price for this tranche (340 PLN/MWh, 75 €/MWh).

In total, 111 bids were submitted for larger units (above 1 MW), corresponding to over 1.2 GW of PV projects and 0.3 GW of onshore wind projects, which are expected to produce almost 25 TWh of renewable electricity. The minimum prices of PLN 179/MWh (€40/MWh) for onshore wind and PLN 209/MWh (€46/MWh) for PV were 28% and 35% below the reference prices (PLN 250/MWh .) (55 €/MWh) and 320 PLN/MWh (71 €/MWh).
