Poland awards Contract for Difference to Baltica offshore wind farms

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has awarded the 1.2 GW Baltic Power offshore wind project a Contract for Difference (CfD).

Baltic Power is owned and developed by PKN Orlen from Poland and Northland Power from Canada.

Under the 25-year contract, the project will receive payments for the negative balance of offshore electricity fed into the grid, which means Baltic Power will receive the potential difference between the market price for electricity and that in the CfD.

The award is part of the Polish government's commitment to support an initial phase of 5.9 GW of offshore wind under the Polish Offshore Wind Act.
