Renewable powered battery cathode materials plant in Poland

The new Johnson Matthey battery cathode materials plant in Konin (Poland) will be powered by 100% of renewable energy sources provided by Axpo. The new factory makes a significant contribution to the sustainable battery value chain.

The factory will produce the eLNO, the nickel-rich cathode material designed for PHEV/BEV automotive battery applications, which is the trademark of Johnson Matthey. The company is a member of the Global Battery Alliance and supports its ten principles for a sustainable battery value chain.

The Chief Executive of Battery Materials Mr. Christian Günther emphasized, as the plant`s energy consumption will significantly increase the overall energy consumption of Johnson Matthey, it is crucial to minimize the carbon footprint from the outset to ensure a sustainable battery value chain.
