Lithuania develops a CfD Offshore Wind Auction Scheme

The Lithuanian Government aims to create a regulatory framework for the development of wind energy in the Baltic Sea, which will be supported by the Contracts for Difference (CfD) model, according to the draft legislation prepared and submitted by the Ministry of Energy. The first auction is scheduled for 2023.

According to the Lithuanian authorities, the transmission system operator should be responsible for installing transmission networks connecting offshore wind plant. The Lithuanian government selected a 137.5 km2 area in the Baltic Sea Economic Zone to locate a 700 MW offshore wind project, which will contribute to the target achievement of 45% renewable energy in final energy consumption by 2030.
