Ukraine improves cross-border electricity trade
Electricity transmission system operators and energy regulators of Ukraine and its four neighboring EU Member States – Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Poland – agreed to improve cross-border electricity trade at a meeting hosted by the Energy Community Secretariat in Vienna on 4 April. This will enable efficient commercial exchanges between Ukraine and EU Member States and advance market integration. It was agreed that a joint working group will prepare the common auction rules and other agreements necessary for the successful allocation of yearly, monthly and daily capacities. Once in place, this should result in the increased availability of cross-border transmission capacities and thus more efficient cross-border trade. Reaching these goals depends on the strong commitment of Ukraine to complete electricity market reforms in line with the Third Energy Package and remove existing barriers to trade without further delay.
