Romania to enter the carbon trading market
The Romanian Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely announced that Romania is finally planning to put its carbon credits, granted under the Kyoto Protocol, on the market and sell them to two Japanese companies.
In an interview the Minister acknowledged that Romania is lagging behind in the field of carbon trading, thus not tapping the full potential yet.
The Minister furthermore stated that even in these times of financial crisis the country will trade about 300 M credits, worth some € 1.5 B. The two companies were not named, but he mentioned that the talks could be concluded in about three months time.
