Lithuania establishes new solar research centre

The Lithuanian BOD Group is establishing a new high-tech research cluster at the Visoriai Information Technology Park (VITP). The centre will stretch out over 10.000 m2 and host companies and research institutions with a strong focus on solar energy.

The companies Baltic Solar Energy and Baltic Solar Solutions will engage in research and experimental development of solar cell technology, while UAB ViaSolis is to ensure the assembly of the cells into ready-made solar energy modules.

Combining the forces of the business community and scientists, the research centre will engage in scientific research and, by monitoring market forces, be able to react to competitor’s actions on the world market.

Market analysis forecasts that the production of solar elements will generate a turnover of € 120 M until 2015. The research centre will also boost employment in the region by creating approximately 500 new jobs.
