First unit of the Ukrainian Dnister Hydroelectric Power Plant was launched

 

On December 22nd 2009 the Dnister Hydroelectric Power Plant, largest HPP in Europe, was put into operation.

The Dnister HPP is one of the largest pumped storage electric power plants in the world. The construction was already set off in 1983. Its main function is to regulate the frequency and schedule of the load on the Ukrainian electricity systems and to build an emergency reserve of electricity.

The HPP will have an electrical output of 2268 MW in generating mode and 2947 MW in pumping mode. The first unit is designed to produce 240 Million kWh of electricity in 2010. The second and third units will be operational n 2011 and 2012. The 7 planned units will have a total capacity of close to 2.5 Million kW.
