Support schemes – Energy Country Profile

Support schemes

Feed-in tariff

Renewable energy generation is promoted through a feed-in tariff as well as a premium.

Renewable energy installations with a capacity under 4MW can profit from the feed-in-tariff, which is anually determined by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Producers of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES-E) who inject the electricity into the grid are eligible for the FiT.

The FiT is only applicable to new roof-top or facade PV installations with a maximum installed capacity of 30 KW as well as to certain installations using biomass.

Electricity

Renewable energy electricity generation is promoted through a feed-in tariff as well as a premium.

Renewable energy installations with a capacity under 4MW can profit from the feed-in-tariff, which is anually determined by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Producers of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES-E) who inject the electricity into the grid are eligible for the FiT.

Since July 2018, all RES-E producers with a total installed capacity of at least 4 MW are obligated to sell their electricity on the stock market.

Heating and Cooling

There are a number of other support schemes for the use of renewable energy for heating and cooling, including:

  • grants from the Energy Efficiency Fund
  • exemption for building owners from the obligatory property tax

Transport

On the other hand, the use of renewables in the transport sector is promoted through a quota system, which obliges diesel/petrol producers to ensure that biofuels make up a certain percentage of their annual fuel sales.
