Energy Supply

ational Resources

  • Coal resources, located mainly in Northern Bohemia, are most important for the country. They comprise 6.0 Gt, of which
    • hard coal: 2.5 Gt or 42 %
    • lignite: 3.5 Gt or 58 %
  • Oil resources are small. They are quantified at 2Mt.
  • Resources of natural gas are small as well: 4 Gm3
  • Hydroelectric potential is quantified being 2 GW.
  • Other Renewables

Development of primary energy demand per capita in Czech Republic, other CEEC, Austria, and the EU 15, 2006

Source: ENERDATA s.a. - WORLD ENERGY DATABASE [2009]

The decline of energy demand per capita is mainly due to the reduction of energy demand in industry. The trend of steadily rising primary energy demand, which is visible in the EU and Austria, can up to now only be seen in Slovenia, and, covertly, in Hungary and Slovak Republic.

How do I read this table?

Example: 987,493 TJ of solid fuels were produced in the country in 2007, additional 102,737 were imported. 219,320 TJ were exported, 22,981 went from the stock. The remaining 893,892 went into primary consumption, 634,234 TJ into power plants for electricity production. Industry consumed 161,075 TJ, transport consumed 24 TJ and household/services consumed 31,457 of the remaining 210,494 TJ.
