Czech Republic imposes new solar tax

Since the beginning of 2011 the Czech Republic enforces a new solar tax on free-range photovoltaic power plant operators.

Because of the rising electricity prices, which boosted the installation of photovoltaic panels, operators are now subject to tax payments. The tax liability will be in force until 2013 and amounts to 26 % of the feed-in tariff or 28 % of the bonus respectively. Affected are all modules installed in the years 2009 and 2010. Modules installed on roof-tops with an installed capacity of less than 30 kW will be exempt from the tax. However the regulator also cut the feed-in conditions severely, from € 0.50 to 0.24.

By doing so, the Czech government intends to constrain a possible sharp price-rise of electricity in 2011.
