Solar Cluster promoting solar-energy in Dalmatia, Croatia

 

The Rijeka based Solar Cluster has conducted an awareness raising campaign called ‘Solar Greeting to Dalmatia’ in 30 Dalmatian cities. Representatives arrived in each city with a sailboat with the aim of stressing how important the utilisation of solar and green energy is.

Solar Cluster coordinator Vjeran Pirscic from the Eco Kvarner association stated that Croatia has great potential in solar energy but has failed to realise it so far. Pirsic said: "We show residents and local governments that there is much cheaper solar energy technology nowadays. The irony is that 60 per cent of hotels in Dalmatia use oil for heating water in the summer but could easily use solar energy”. Pirsic claimed residents had shown great interest in solar energy, but many local governments had not.

He further announced there would be a public lecture in December 2009 in Zagreb during which the Solar Cluster would present data collected during their visits to the Dalmatian cities.
